Delhi Government and Khan Academy to conduct online Mathematics classes for class 9 students

The Delhi Government in collaboration with Khan Academy will offer specially curated mathematics classes or the students of class 9 across the Delhi Government schools. According to reports, close to 1000 teachers from the Delhi government schools will be trained by the Khan Academic via Webinars to conduct the classes for the students. 

Need for conducting online mathematics classes

Delhi Education Advisor Shailendra Sharma said that the students have a hard time with mathematics which is why for the past 10 days the government has been discussing with Khan Academy on ways to support the students of class 9 in Mathematics. 

Sharma, also added that the pass percentage for mathematics in class 10 board examinations in the Delhi schools is usually low as compared to the other subjects. And with the students struggling with the subject even during regular classes, it will be tougher with students losing classes during the lockdown. 

Talking about the pass percentage of the students in Mathematics, Sharma said that last time the board had a pass percentage of 71 percent in Mathematics compared to the other subjects as a Social Sciences and languages in which the general pass percentage is 97 percent. 

With an aim to make sure that the students do not face trouble in Mathematics, the government in collaboration with Khan Academy has decided to conduct online mathematics classes for the students. 

Details of online mathematics classes 

Sandeep Bapna, Managing Director, Khan Academy India said that the programme will be conducted for a duration of 10 weeks. 

From Monday onwards the parents will receive an SMS with a link to open the day's lessons which will contain two or three videos and a couple of exercises to be done. The programme is being conducted in order to revise the syllabus from last year and also to prepare the students for the upcoming academic year, Bapna added 

Bapna also said that the partnership with the government will benefit close to 3 lakh students. With regard to the students from KG to class 8, the government is sending out daily SMS with general activities to 5,71,661 parents of the students. The daily SMS alert is also being sent out to 12,14,049 parents of students from KG to class 12 for the Happiness classes at home.
