CBSE Board Exam 2020: Board Officials discuss process for conducting pending 10th and 12th exams and evaluation process post lockdown

CBSE Board Exam 2020: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reportedly released a detailed procedure for conduct of the impending CBSE 2020 Board examinations along with beginning the evaluation process after the lockdown ends. According to the latest reports, Dr. Sanyam Bharadwaj, Controller of Examination, CBSE conducted a virtual meeting with the school principals from over 100 schools to discuss the schedule ahead for the pending examinations along with the evaluation work which needs to be resumed in order to declare the board examination results of CBSE.  

Along with this, the CBSE exam Controller has also discussed the matter of conducting the new academic session and revision of the syllabus to make up for the time lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The board is expected to declare a declared notification regarding the same soon.

Dates for Pending Board Exams

One of the major concerns before the CBSE Board is regarding the conduct of the pending examinations for the 10th and 12th Class students. Earlier, the board had announced that it would be holding the pending exams only for key subjects (29 subjects) which are important for seeking admission to higher education institutions. In the recent meeting with School Principals, CBSE’s Controller of Examination, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj reiterated this fact and also said that the dates for the pending exams will be shared after the approval from the Ministry of Human Resource Development based on the situation.

Evaluation Work to Commence in ‘Work From Home’ Mode

One of the major points of discussion the meeting of CBSE Exam Controller and School Principals was about the evaluation work for the exams that are already held. On this front, Mr Bhardwaj informed that the board is planning to start the evaluation work for papers which are already completed within 4 days of the lockdown being lifted. Another major change in the evaluation process is also on cards as the board is considering allowing work from home for the teachers and evaluators involved in the process. Reports indicate that all head-examiners and assistant head-examiners will be facilitating work from home evaluation process this year.

Amid rising concerns of parents and students with regards to the start of the news academic session and the loss of time in terms of completion of syllabus during the lockdown period, the board has clarified that it would not be deleting any chapters from the curriculum. Instead, the board is planning to cut-out a few sections from the existing chapters to reduce the syllabus for the students of 9th and 11th class.

Continuous Evaluation Process

Another key aspect that was discussed during CBSE and School Principal’s meet was about the holding of the continuous evaluation process for the students. looking at the current circumstances,  CBSE is considering ruling out the one final exam format and instead if likely to adopt  continuous evaluation process based on MCQS, school-based examination for the academic year 2020-21. CBSE has also asked schools to monitor the attendance of the students for online classes. He has said that 75% attendance should be made mandatory.
