A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between India and Nepal for the reconstruction of six secondary schools in the Himalayan nation. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Indian Embassy and Nepal’s Central Level Project Implementation Unit (Education) of Nepal Reconstruction Authority (NRA).

According to the statement released by the Indian Embassy, the MoU signed focuses on the construction of six secondary schools to be built at a cost of Nepali Rupees 518 Million. As per reports Kanti Bhairab Secondary, Champa Devi Secondary School, Dhapasi Secondary School, Bishnu Devi Secondary School out of the six total schools are located in Kathmandu district while Harisiddhi Secondary School and Siddheshwor Secondary School are located in Kavre district.

The ceremony for one of the schools was conducted amidst a ceremony in Thali of Kathmandu. The signing of the memorandum was conducted at a ceremony for the reconstruction of Shree Kanti Bhairab Secondary School at Kageshwari Municipality, Kathmandu.

The ceremony was attended by Namgya C Khampa, Deputy Chief of Embassy of India, Katmandu - Sushil Gywali, DEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) of the Government of Nepal along with Mayor of Kageshwari Municipality, Secretary NRA, and Representatives of  Shree Kanti Bhairab School Management Committee.

While speaking on the occasion of the signing of the Memorandum, Deputy Chief of Indian Embassy Khampa stated that the ceremony was a testament to the strong and robust development partnership between India and Nepal.

Post-earthquake reconstruction project

The Deputy Chief further added that India remains committed to continue collaborating with the government of Nepal and its agencies for Socio-economic development of Nepal which includes post-earthquake reconstruction projects in Nepal.

The Shre Kanti Bhairab Secondary School built as per the earthquake-resilient reconstruction norms of the government of Nepal is being constructed at a cost of Nepali Rupees 266 Million. The new building will have 30 classrooms, library and lab/practical rooms, separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls along with furniture. 

Technical hand-holding for construction of these schools will be provided by the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorke.
