पूरक कोणों के त्रिकोणमितीय अनुपात (Trigonometrical Ratios of Complementary Angles) :

एक समकोण त्रिभुज ABC लीजिए जिसका कोण B समकोण है (आकृति देखिए)

यही कारण है कि इसे कोसाइन (कोज्या) का नाम दिया गया हैं क्योंकि यह sine, (ज्या) फलन का सह-फलन (co-function) है अर्थात् दूसरे शब्दों में हम यह कह सकते हैं कि किसी कोण का cosine (कोज्या) उसके पूरक कोण का ज्या होता है और किसी कोण का ज्या उसके पूरक कोण का कोज्या होता है ।

हम यहाँ गणितज्ञों द्वारा चर के कुछ मानों के लिए तीन अथवा चार दशमलव स्थान तक शुद्ध तैयार की गई सारणियों के एक भाग को प्रस्तुत कर रहे हैं :

इस सारणी का प्रयोग किसी समपंचभुज (regular pentagon) की एक भुजा और बराबर विकर्णों में से एक विकर्ण का अनुपात मालूम करने में किया जा सकता है । (देखिए आकृति) समपंचभुज़ के विकर्णों को खींचने पर हमेँ तारे की तरह की आकृति प्राप्त होती है । इस तारे के अनेक रोचक गुणधर्म हैं ।
