The concept of punch lines in ads is very important or prominent these days. The punch lines in ads today need to be there because sometimes they become the usp of the ad. Though not a technical term in advertising or so, the punch lines are now a popular trend. They can be jokes, pretty one liner or attractive lines that would stay in your mind. This is so because when you remember the product, you remember the punch line and you are simply attracted to it and induced to buy it.
A popular example is Nike. Now Nike came up with the idea that the people who shall wear Nike would be always doing something productive. They would not just sit around. So they came up with a great tag line or punch line- “just do it”.
Why to go for punch lines?
As mentioned above, the tag line or punch lines would attract the customer. In the example of Nike this has worked successfully. Also there are many more examples like mc Donald’s, coca cola and so on. The punch lines make the product seem attractive. The punch lines , whether in print ads or TV ads, add to the product value. Thus, punch lines today are adopted by everyone. The ad can go and we may move from one place to another, but what would not go is the attractive punch line.
Disadvantages of a punch line
Sometimes a product may have a punch line which may not make sense at all. Just because there is a trend to have punch lines, it does not mean have punch lines which would not be of any relevance per se. This would not entail any publicity of the product rather it would be decreasing sales of the product. Hence proper punch lines should be used. Plus it is not necessary to use punch lines all the time.
So this article would thus enable you to understand of arguing both sides of having punch lines for your product. The punch lines have both advantages and disadvantages. They make the customers easy to remember the product and its purpose or utility. On the other hand, bad punch lines can ruin the reputation of both the product and brand per se.
