MP TET Exam Date 2026 Announced, But Confusion Grows on Eligibility Criteria

The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department has started the application process for the Special Teacher Eligibility Test (MP Special TET) for working teachers, and the exam is to be held on October 12, 2026. However, this move has created huge confusion among the educators across the state. Even after releasing the official exam schedule, the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) has not provided a clear list mentioning who in the teaching profession is required to take the test. Department officials have stated verbally that teachers who already have the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) written on their mark sheets are exempt. However, because there are no clear written rules, thousands of teachers now worry about their job security.

Why is there confusion over MP TET Eligibility Rules?

According to the teachers and teacher unions, the biggest conflict involves contract teachers who were hired between 2005 and 2009. During that period, exams were conducted through Vyapam, and the certificates issued to selected candidates were named Contract School Teacher Eligibility Test (Samvida Shala Shikshak Patrata Pariksha).

Because the administration has not issued written guidelines explaining the technical difference between these titles, those teachers who had been hired between 2005 and 2009 are now left in the dark about whether they need to sit for this new exam. Teachers argue that Supreme Court guidelines require passing an eligibility test, not repeatedly re-taking exams under a newly updated syllabus.

What Are the Technical Issues Causing Confusion?

There are three primary technical reasons which are causing the current confusion among the teachers, which are as follows:-

  • The difficult Vyapam exam, which was conducted between 2005 and 2009, used a syllabus which was almost similar to the current TET syllabus. Teachers are now questioning the logic of making them reappear for a similar exam.
  • Teachers of the primary and middle school who were appointed between 1999 and 2004 without a written exam have since been promoted to higher positions. Exempting them now while requiring others to take the tests creates conditions of unfair treatment.
  • Under the Higher Post Charge policy, many teachers currently teach higher grade levels. It remains unclear whether these educators should apply based on their original position or the higher position they are currently managing.

Without clear written guidelines from the administration, the frustration of the teachers continues to build among working teachers across Madhya Pradesh as they demand an immediate clarification.
