Eligible Criteria to Apply for Nursing Assistant in the Indian Armed Forces

Candidates who are eager to apply for nursing assistant in Indian Army should be 10+2/ Intermediate Exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Minimum 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject. Or, In case the candidate has a BSc Degree with (Botany / Zoology / Bio-Science) and English, the stipulation of percentage in Class-XII is waived off. However, the candidate should have studied all the four specified subjects in Class XII also.

Age Limit:

17 ½ - 23 Yrs

Physical Standards:

The minimum acceptable height is 157 cms (Varies according to the region). Minimum chest should be 77 cms and minimum weight should be 48 kg (Varies according to the region).

Medical Standards:

A candidate should have robust physique and good mental health. Chest should be well developed having minimum 5 cms expansion. Should have normal hearing with each ear and good binocular vision in both eyes. He should be able to read 6/6 in distant vision chart with each eye. Colour vision should be CP – III (able to recognize white, red and green signal colors correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at 1.5 mtrs).Should have sufficient number of natural healthy gum and teeth i.e. minimum 14 dental points.Should not have diseases like deformity of bones, hydrocele and varicocele or piles.Soldier General Duty for infantry should have 6/6 eye sight.

Selection Procedure for Nursing Assistant in the Indian Armed Forces:

Screening and selection process is done yearly through an open rally system. The recruitment process conducted in zonal recruiting offices comprises the following steps: Document Verification, Test for Physical fitness, Physical measurement, Medical Test, Written Test, Short listing candidates on merit basis. Document verification process includes mark sheet verification, caste certificate verification, nativity certificate verification, etc. After document verification, eligible candidates are subjected to physical fitness test.

As part of the screening process, candidates will be tested in Physical Fitness Tests (PFT).Physical Fitness Tests (PFT) is mandatory and will be carried out for all categories during the screening process of recruitment to assess the candidate’s physical ability and courage. The following tests will be concluded under Physical Fitness Tests (PFT):

  • 1.6 km run for Endurance. Pull Ups on Beam (Under Grip) for Strength.
  • 9 feet Ditch for Courage.
  • Zig-Zag Balance for Agility.

The next step of selection process is the written exam, which comprises of two papers.

Weightage in Merit:

Common Entrance Examination (CEE) marks. However, the individual should have qualified inPhysical Fitness Test (PFT).

Salary Structure and Other Allowances for Nursing Assistant in the Indian Armed Forces:

After enrolment, a nurse is entitled to get basic pay approx Rs 23,000/- per month as per 7th Pay Commission and allowances as admissible along with other facilities such as free ration/ ration money, clothing, medical for self and accommodation, Railway warrant for self and dependents, Group Housing Scheme, Army Group Insurance Scheme of Rs 25,00,000/-. The other privileges are fully paid Annual Leave up to a maximum of 60 days, Casual Leave up to a maximum of 30 days, Medical Leave as recommended by Medical authorities and Leave Encashment up to 30 days in a calendar year and maximum 300 days in service.
