WBJEE 2015, Chemistry

47. The number of lone pair of electrons on the central atoms of H2O, SnCl2, PCl3 and XeF2 respectively, are

(A) 2,1,1,3

(B) 2,2,1,3

(C) 3,1,1,2

(D) 2,1,2,3

Ans : (A)

Lone pair of electrons on the central atoms of H2O is 2.

Lone pair of electrons on the central atoms of SnCl2 is 1.

Lone pair of electrons on the central atoms of PCl3 is 1.

Lone pair of electrons on the central atoms of XeF2 is 3.

48. Consider the following salts: NaCl, HgCl2, Hg2Cl2, CuCl2, CuCl and AgCl. Identify the correct set of insoluble salts in water

(A) Hg2Cl2, CuCl, AgCl

(B) HgCl2, CuCl, AgCl

(C) Hg2Cl2, CuCl2, AgCl

(D) Hg2Cl2, CuCl, NaCl

Ans : (A)

The ionic metal compound that are insoluble in water is called insoluble salt.

In the above options, insoluble salts are Hg2Cl2, CuCl and AgCl.

Hence the correct option is A.

So, the number of sp hybridized carbon atom is 4.

50. For the reaction A + 2B → C, the reaction rate is doubled if the concentration of A is doubled. The rate is increased by four times when concentrations of both A and B are increased by four times. The order of the reaction is

(A) 3

(B) 0

(C) 1

(D) 2

Ans : (C)

Rate is doubled when concentration of ‘A’ is doubled.

Also, rate is quadrupled when concentration of ‘A’ is raised four times. This means that there is no effect on rate of reaction when we raise the concentration of B.

Order of reaction with respect to A is 1.

Order of reaction with respect to B is 0.

Total order of reaction is 1.
