Keshub Mahindra stepped down as the Chairman of 15.4 billion dollar business conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra on 8 August 2012. His nephew and Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the company Anand Mahindra elevated to the position of Chairman, the position Keshub held for nearly 48 years. He would, however, continue to be Chairman Emeritus of the group.
During the 48 years of his chairmanship, the Mahindra Group made its presence felt in various sectors including automobile, IT, real estate, financial services and hospitality.
He was instrumental in establishing business ties with global business giants like Willys Corporation, Mitsubishi, International Harvester,
United Technologies, British Telecom and many others.
The founder Chairman of HUDCO, he served on many corporate boards, including SAIL, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels, IFC, ICICI and HDFC. He also held the position of President of Employers' Federation of India and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was a member of the Sachar Commission on Company Law and Reforms.
