At an estimated cost of Rs 6,798 crore, the Union Cabinet approved two major railway projects on October 24 that will improve infrastructure in the three states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Bihar.
The two projects, which cover eight districts across three states—Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Bihar—will add roughly 313 kilometers to the current Indian Railways network.
Union Cabinet Approves Two Railway Projects
The two approved projects by the Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of PM Narendra Modi are:
(a) the doubling of the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga & Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur Section covering 256 kms and
(b) construction of a new line between Errupalem and Namburu via Amaravati covering 57 kms.
How Will the New Railway Projects Help Citizens?
The New Line project, which includes nine new stations, will connect around 168 villages and serve a population of about 12 lakh people. By enhancing connectivity to two key districts, Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur, the project will benefit approximately 388 villages and around 9 lakh residents.
Additionally, the new line plan will provide direct access to "Amaravati," the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh. This connection will not only improve the movement of people and goods but also boost Indian Railways' efficiency and service reliability. Overall, the multi-tracking project will upgrade infrastructure on some of the busiest railway sections in India, making operations smoother and reducing congestion for the benefit of citizens.
According to the government, the projects would be finished in five years. They will reduce CO2 emissions (168 Crore Kg, equal to the plantation of 7 Crore trees), minimize logistics costs, ease travel, improve connectivity, and cut down on oil imports.
Atmanirbhar Bharat with New Railway Projects
The approved projects support Prime Minister Modi’s Vision of a New India, aiming to make people in the region self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) through overall development. The development of a new railway line will improve job and self-employment opportunities for the local community of the three states.
