The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) approached the IPL 2025 auction with a calculated strategy, focusing on reacquiring key players from previous seasons.
Under the experienced guidance of MS Dhoni, the team made significant moves, including the re-signing of seasoned stars like Ravichandran Ashwin, Rachin Ravindra, and Devon Conway, among others.
Heading into the auction, CSK retained five core players, securing a solid foundation for the upcoming season. Their retained lineup features skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, a reliable opener and emerging leader, alongside veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, whose dual role remains vital for the team.
Additionally, Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana and hard-hitting all-rounder Shivam Dube were also retained, showcasing the team's commitment to balancing experience and youth.
Interestingly, MS Dhoni, the franchise's legendary figure, was retained for a modest ₹4 Crore due to an IPL rule considering players who have not represented India in the last five years as 'uncapped.'
On Day 2 of the auction, CSK's most significant purchase was pacer Anshul Kamboj, secured for ₹3.40 crore. They also added players like Sam Curran, Vijay Shankar, and Deepak Hooda to their squad. Prior to the auction, CSK had retained five key players: Ruturaj Gaikwad (₹18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (₹13 crore), Shivam Dube (₹12 crore), Ravindra Jadeja (₹18 crore), and MS Dhoni (₹4 crore). The auction has come to an end with Chennai Super Kings bagging 25 amazing players.
