The Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan has decided to reduce its syllabus for the 2020-21 academic year. The decision was taken by the board due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state. With the lockdown imposed, schools in Rajasthan have remained shut since March 2020 due to which students were unable to cover the syllabus on time.
Rajasthan State Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra in a tweet stated that the Rajasthan State Council of Education Research and Teaching will be reducing the syllabus for the 2020 21 academic years. The minister in the tweet elaborated that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the working days have been reduced in schools. Keeping in mind the students' interests, the Secondary Education Directorate has directed the Secondary Education Board and the RSCERT with regard to the reduction in the syllabus. He further added that the final decision in this regard will be taken soon.
HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal had first announced the reductions of the syllabus by the CBSE Board for the students from classes 9 to 12. The reductions will be by 30 percent for the students in the next academic year. Following this decision, the Gujarat State Board and the Goa State Board also announced its decision to reduce the syllabus for the students in the coming academic year. The decision to reduce the syllabus has been quoted as only a one time measure by the boards keeping in mind the present situation in the country.
Schools have been closed since March 2020 in the country which is why the boards are experiencing a lack of time at hand to cover the prescribed syllabus for the students.
