ICSSR Internship Program: Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Research Internship Programme in Social and Human Sciences on December 5, 2024. To strengthen social science research in India, the Minister distributed appointment letters to the newly selected ICSSR research interns and commended their potential to contribute to India’s development through innovative and impactful research.
The internship program, aimed at postgraduate students of social sciences, aligns with India’s goal of becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat.’ According to Shri Pradhan, this initiative is important for strengthening social science research, which plays a key role in adopting technological advancements, boosting economic growth, and promoting social progress.
“Robust social science research fortifies the civilizational essence of Bharatiyata, equipping us to adapt to technological advancements while promoting economic and social development”, Pradhan said.

ICSSR Internship Program Eligibility
To be eligible for the ICSSR Internship, candidates must have completed a Master’s degree (M.A. / M.Sc.) with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in any Social Science discipline. Preferred fields include statistics, economics, sociology, education, and geography, from a recognized university. Applicants should have a solid understanding of research methodologies, statistical tools, and data analysis within the context of social sciences. The internship lasts between two to six months, during which interns will receive a fixed stipend of Rs. 25,000 per month.
ICSSR Internship Program 2024: What is the Selection Process?
The selection process for the ICSSR Internship consists of two stages: an interview and an assessment of academic qualifications. Only candidates who meet the required qualifications and demonstrate strong research potential will be shortlisted for the interview. Those who clear the interview will be selected for the ICSSR Internship Program.
