The bank clerks in metro cities, like other area bank clerks need to undergo regular duties such as receiving cheques, issuing drafts, payment of cash passing the cash etc. The clerks often need to function as the Cashier, Single Window Operator (SWO), Universal Teller (UT) and Special Assistants in the banks which does not involve any passing or supervisory function of an officer of the bank.
They need to hold the bank’s cash, keep eyes on the locker etc. They often need to update pass books, verify customer account details, signatures, issue withdrawal forms and explain various schemes and services offered by the bank to the customers in detail.
Salary and Allowances of a Bank clerk in Metro City
The bank clerks after joining the nationalized banks are offered the Basic Pay of Rs. 11, 765/- pm. The increase has resulted after the recent 10th bi-partite settlement in the banking industry. The candidates are paid by the banks in the pay scale of Rs/ 11765- 42020, that includes there allowances and perks. The House Rent Allowance (HRA), Medical Allowance, Dearness Allowances (DA) and other benefits are provided to the bank clerks by the banks. The candidates living in the metro cities are given 8.5% of their basic pay as HRA. Those candidates who are placed in a city with population not more than 5 lakh are given 7.5% of the basic pay as HRA and those who are posted in any other cities are given 6.5% of the basic pay as HRA.
Promotion Policy for a Bank Clerk
The clerical post is just the beginning in any of the public sector bank in India as there are huge opportunities to get promoted in rank at the bank as the candidates grown older with experience. The recently recruited candidates in the banks need to undergo a probation period of six months, after which they get permanent in the bank. The bank clerks after completing a few years in the bank can apply for departmental promotional examinations to become Trainee Officer and Probationary Officer. Once they reach the post of Probationary Officer, the steps upwards become relatively easier. The candidates after 3-4 years of their services as PO can become Assistant Manager and Branch Manager.. Dedicated and visionary candidates in the next 10 years of their service can reach up to the level of Chief Manager, Assistant General Manager and Deputy General Manager.
