17-year old Shivansh Joshi of Uttarakhand created history by acing the prestigious NDA Exam. In the recently released NDA & NA (I) 2017 Final Results, Shivansh topped the list by successfully clearing the Written Exam and the SSB Interview. Probably, this is for the first time a youth of the hill State achieved this feat.
What makes the story of Shivansh more interesting is – he opted for a career in the armed forces, despite getting an opportunity to study in IIT. Previously, he successfully cleared the IIT JEE Advanced Exam. He also took admission in the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli but left the course to serve the nation.
Born to Subhasg Joshi, an Assistant Administrative Officer in the LIC, and Tanuja Joshi, a teacher in a government primary school, Shivansh studied in the Little Scholars School and cleared the Class XII Exams with a score of 96.8%.
A resident of Ramnagar city, located 65 km away from the capital Nainital, Shivansh accomplished the feat without any coaching and dedicated his achievement to parents and teachers. For Shivansh, joining the armed forces is a childhood dream and the motivation for succeeding in the exam comes from scores of people of Uttarakhand, who are part of the national defence and security establishment, including the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the current Chief of Army Staff Bipin Rawat.
Balance between the academics and sports, religiously following the daily routine and emphasis on focused and qualitative study rather than long hours of study hours contributed to Shivansh’s success. Playing football and reading are his favorite past times.
It should be noted that the NDA & NA (I) 2017 Written Exam was conducted on 24 April and the SSB Interviews were held in September 2017. In the final results announced on 24 November 2017, total 371 candidates for the tri-services.
