Grandmaster and national champion Abhijeet Gupta won the sixth Kavala International chess tournament on 1 August 2012. He won the tournament after drew with Georgia’s Shota Adaladze Georgia in the ninth and final round in Kavala. The 21st Kavala Chess tournament was scheduled from 25 July 2012 to 1 August 2012 in Kavala, Greece.
Gupta made 7.5 points out of a 9 possible points and also cross the 2650 ratings obstacles for the second time. In the whole tournament, Abhijeet won six and drew three games.
However, India’s Grandmaster S P Sethuraman defeated Georgian Davit Maghalashvili in his last round game whereas Ashwin draw the game with Italy’s Alessio Valsecchi. The six-way tie for the second spot was shared between Sethuraman and Jayaram. But the tie was resolved by Sethuraman finished third while Jayaram at sixth in the final standings.
