The Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah's outstanding performance at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia earned him the title of ICC Men's Player of the Month for December.
Bumrah set a new record for the highest rating points by an Indian in the ICC Test rankings, surpassing fellow nominees and top World Test Championship wicket-takers Pat Cummins and Dane Paterson. This is the second time that Bumrah managed to clinch the Player of the Month Title.
Bumrah’s Spectacular Performance in Australia
In December, Bumrah took 22 wickets at an average of 14.22 in three Test matches in Australia, capping off a fantastic year on the international front.
With his four for 61 in Adelaide, the seamer led India's fight as the home team gained confidence and rallied from a 1-0 deficit to take the series lead.
Bumrah then proceeded to Brisbane, where he dominated the Australian batting order in the opening innings, taking three for 18 in the second and six for 76 in a terrifying stretch.
In the second innings of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, the 31-year-old bowled five for 57, setting a new record for the greatest rating points scored by any Indian bowler in history. This was part of another nine-wicket return.
ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year
Bumrah aims to continue his success in the coming weeks as he is nominated for two major awards in the ICC Awards 2024: the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year and the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.
Thrilled to be…
I am thrilled to be named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for December. It is always humbling to be chosen for individual accolades, and it is always nice to be recognized for your efforts, Bumrah said.
“The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was one of the most closely fought contests ever, and it was an honour for me to go out there and perform for my country.”
