National School of Drama's 'Bal Sangam' to be held from November 9 to 12

The 11th edition of ‘Bal Sangam’ will be conducted from November 9 to 12, 2019 at the National School of Drama. The festival will be a platform for traditional performing arts and folk theatre from 12 states which is dedicated to children.

Bal Sangam which is an outreach programme of ‘Sanskaar Rang Toli’ is conducted every alternate year bringing forward the heritage and legacy of the art forms which are presented by the children who belong to the traditional performing families.

The performing arts and folk theatre festival will include folk dances, martial arts, acrobatics and street play performances along with jugglery, puppetry and magic shows.

The acting chairman of the National School of Drama, Arjun Deo Charan while speaking about the festival said that it is an ensemble of different performing traditional art forms that will be presented by the children.

He said that the school is proud that the Theatre-in-Education Company has been working rigorously to accustom the children with their cultures, traditions, and values.

Laying importance to the fact that the theatre and other performing arts are a learning medium to students which will help in exploring and sensitizing them towards contemporary issued. He also said that festivals like these are a wonderful platform for the students not just to perform but to also learn, share and travel.  He personally believed that when children are introduced to the energetic and dynamic works of theatre, they become better human beings.

Also speaking on the occasion was Abdul Latif Khatana, Chief of Theatre-in-Education who said that when a child artist imbibes folk and traditional art forms along with the mastery of their art and innocence, the performance of these children becomes almost magical.
