Tamil Nadu Rains: Schools in Villupuram, Tirunelveli and Several Other Districts Closed 13th Dec Due to Heavy Rain Alert

TN School Holidays: Schools across various districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Karaikal regions will remain closed due to the heavy rainfall receved in the region. IMD had earlier issued a yellow alert for TN and Puducherry areas from December 11 to 13 due to a deep depression developed over the southwest Bay of Bengal along the coast of Sri Lanka. The Indian Meteorological Department has also predicted light to moderate rainfall along with thunder and lightning across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. A downpour alert has also been issued for some areas in Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi districts.

TN School Holiday December 13

Schools in Villupuram, Tirunelveli (Nellai), Thoothukudi and Tenkasi  will remain closed due to rainfall alerts. The District Collectors of Villupuram, Tirunelveli (Nellai), Thoothukudi and Tenkasi have announced closure of schools for today, December 13, 2024 as a precautionary measure to the heavy rainfall in the area. Parents and students can must keep in touch with the school administration for latest updates on the school holiday.

TN Scool Holiday December 12

As per latest reports, schools in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and 12 other districts will remain closed today due to heavy rainfall alerts issued for Tamil Nadu starting Wednesday night. Schools in Chennai, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, and Tanjore were closed due to cloudburst.  Schools in Puducherry will also remain closed according to a recent order issued. Home Minister A Manassivayam declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal due to the heavy rain forecast. 

TN School Holidays December 11

The India Meteorological Department had earlier issued a yellow alert in Chennai for December 12, 2024. As per reports, the city is expected to witness cyclonic disturbance bringing heavy rainfall since there will be a low-pressure area over central parts of the south Bay of Bengal.

The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert in five districts of Tamil Nadu including Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Cuddalore from December 11 to 13, 2024 and in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. A yellow alert has also been issued in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet districts with heavy rain expected from December 11 to 12, 2024. 

School Holidays Expected

In light of the yellow alert issued, schools, colleges and other educational institutions are expected to have a school holiday today, December 12, 2024. The chances of a holiday being announced are high and are expected to be made soon considering the safety of students and staff members. Official confirmation on the school holiday is awaited.
