The CAT 2018 result came out much earlier, as the official time was 1pm. IIMCAT has finally announced the CAT 2018 result, and as per the overall percentile scores, we have the list of CAT 2018 toppers.
Jagranjosh brings to you an exclusive interview with Rishabh Gupta who has scored 99.98 percentile.
JagranJosh: Congratulations on scoring 99.98 percentile! What are your overall and sectional scores in CAT 2018?
Rishabh Gupta: Thank you.
Overall percentile- 99.98
VARC- 97.75
DILR- 99.99
QA- 99.92
JagranJosh: When did you start your CAT 2018 Preparation? What is the ideal time required to complete the CAT syllabus before the exam?

Rishabh Gupta: I started my preparations from March and according to me 7-8 months are sufficient for it. It completely depends on the student and the amount of time he has in hand to prepare for the exam.
JagranJosh: What was your overall preparation strategy for CAT 2018?
Rishabh Gupta: Follow the guidance from the faculty and try to give as many mocks as possible analyze them find mistakes.
JagranJosh: Was there any particular section/area that you were weak at? How did you overcome this challenge? What strategies did you adopt to master that section?
Rishabh Gupta: I was weak at VARC from the beginning. I had talked to faculties, friends and tried approaching question from various strategies and finally improved.
JagranJosh: Please share your section-wise preparation strategy for QA, DILR and VARC.
Rishabh Gupta: For QA I had done sectionals from catapult, followed various books like Arun Sharma. For DILR again its different sectionals and books while for VARC you need to read different topics daily and analyze them. Mocks are very important to know your strengths and weaknesses.
JagranJosh: Were you a part of any coaching institute? Do you think coaching is necessary to ace CAT?
Rishabh Gupta: Yes, I have attended classes from CataPult. I am thankful to my coaching institute for helping me gain an edge over others.
JagranJosh: Any particular book or study material that helped you gain an edge over other candidates?
Rishabh Gupta: I think material from CATaPult is enough for getting 99+ percentile.
JagranJosh: What role did Mocks play in your success? How many mocks did you attempt before the exam?
Rishabh Gupta: Mocks are necessary for CAT it not only helps you to get real time experience but also helps you to build strategies, I have attempted close to 50mocks.
JagranJosh: Please share your exam-day strategy for the CAT 2018. What was your last-minute preparation? How did you plan your CAT test taking?
Rishabh Gupta: I had a job offer from Samsung so I was more relaxed when I went for the CAT. You should be relaxed while attempting any National level exam . When you take more stress you are bound to commit mistakes. So, as a advice once you know your Cat slot try to give mocks at that slot time it will be beneficial. Be confident in your preparations.
JagranJosh: Do you think academic background plays an important role in CAT Prep and Why?
Rishabh Gupta: It is a general trend that engineers like DILR and QA and usually score more in these two. It’s the same case with me.
JagranJosh: Which institutes have you applied to admission and why did you opt for them particularly?
Rishabh Gupta: I have applied to IIMs and FMS.
JagranJosh: How are you preparing for GD – PI and WAT rounds of the selection process?
Rishabh Gupta: I have started reading current affairs, interacting the faculties about how to proceed further. I have asked alumnus and current students at various B-School about their experience.
JagranJosh: What is your message for CAT aspirants? One crucial piece of advice that you would like them to follow and wish you had known.
Rishabh Gupta: Don’t worry about your Academics even if they are not very good prepared and try to get good percentiles and calls from your dream institutes will follow.
JagranJosh: What is your dream career choice after completing your MBA?
Rishabh Gupta: I want to do MBA in Finance Specialization and join companies like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan.
