What is IBPS and how does it function?

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an autonomous body with the vision to evolve and implement world class processes and systems of assessment and selection of personnel for various client organizations and conduct relevant supportive research and publicize the findings

The Institute goes back to the year 1975, which was then named as Personnel Selection Services (PSS), a unit of National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM). In the year 1984, PSS became an independent entity , now known as, Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) at the behest of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Public Sector Banks.Under The IBPS, a total number of nineteen public sector banks participate in the Common Written Examination.

What is the Common Written Examination and the procedure to get through the 19 banks?

The Common Written Examination or CWE is first conducted by The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for  the initial short listing of personnel in Clerical Cadre, PO/MT, and Specialist Officer in the 19 participating banks.
On the basis of the CWE score cards, banks call candidates for Group Discussion/Personal Interview (GD/PI). Following that, on the basis of the IBPS CWE score and the GD/PI score, the individual banks take out the final merit list of the candidates, who then get appointed in the banks.

However, it is imperative to know that the State Bank of India conducts written test and interview separately for their recruitment to the clerical cadre, PO & SO posts other Cooperative Banks, Gramin Banks, Private Sector Banks recruit huge number of people every year to fill in different posts.
