UPSC NDA NA Physical Standards 2016 Detailed Information:
Being an officer in NDA means above all, being a leader of men. Physical Training for physical fitness at National Defence Academy is the ideal opportunity and perfect place for young cadets to learn and understand the important aspects of leadership like team spirit, courage, physical fitness, stamina, mental toughness and the will to win and snatch victory needed by Officers, who at various stages of their careers must be prepared to lead the smallest combat unit or advise the highest Govt official. This value system is very faithfully upheld by all the cadets of the Academy. The long training hours with close supervision, guidance and motivation provide the force for self-reliance with a responsible attitude. The physical training and sports programme at NDA is designed to allow each Cadet to achieve excellent physical fitness and acquire satisfactory abilities in sports. The compulsory physical training programme emphasizes physical fitness, elementary knowledge in a variety of sports, and sports administration. This toughness in NDA officers requires strong physical and mental fitness to withstand with this rigorous physical training.
NDA NA exam which is conducted by UPSC prescribes the physical standards requires for this exam to be eligible. Accordingly Candidates must be physically and mentally fit according to the prescribed physical standards. Failure to fulfill these standards will result in instant disqualification of the candidates. As number of qualified candidates are rejected subsequently on medical grounds, the Candidates must medically examined themselves to check their eligibility, as these medical and physical fitness is examined at later stage after written test. Candidates are therefore advised in their own interest to get themselves medically examined before submitting their applications to avoid disappointment at the final stage.
Candidates are also advised to rectify minor defects/ailments in order to speed up finalisation of medical examination conducted at the Military Hospital after being recommended at the SSB.

Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearm i.e. from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand/Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable and candidates will be barred from further selection. Tribes with tattoo marks on the face or body as per their existing custom and traditions will be permitted on a case to case basis. Comdt Selection Centre will be competent auth for clearing such cases.
