State-owned carrier Air India announced on 29 March 2011 that it completed the first milestone of its modernisation process with the migration of Air India and Indian Airlines to SITA's Horizon Passenger Service System (PSS).
Switzerland-based SITA is a business solution provider and specialist in air transport communications and IT solutions. SITA was awarded the contract to develop the platform for Air India in April 2010.
The system developed by SITA for AIR India will manage customer functions such as reservations, managing inventory. It has a response time of minimal 1.5 seconds. The $192-million contract awarded to SITA to develop the system will allow passengers the access to a dynamic pricing system which Air India could not offer till now because of the absence of a pricing control engine. For Air India, the consumer connects provided by the system will provide will impact sales positively.
