India’s leading telecom company Airtel on 28 February 2012 joined hand with IT major Infosys for its Mobile Wallet service across the country.
As per this multiyear deal Infosys would provide the mobile wallet service, to the customers of Airtel across the country. According to the agreement both the companies will jointly create a business model which would enable the customers to do cashless transactions using Infosys' WalletEdge mobile commerce platform.
Airtel Money would also serve the customers the facilities to pay bills, recharge accounts, shop at over 7,000 merchant outlets, transact online through multiple channels, including mobile phones, interactive voice response, ATMs (automatic teller machines) and point-of-sale.
Airtel money, country's first-of-its-kind mobile wallet service, would provide customers with facility like instant money transfer. The technology would be of great help in achieving financial inclusion in India.
