Arun Kumar Jain appointed Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairman

Senior revenue service officer Arun Kumar Jain on 15 December 2015 was appointed Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

The appointment of Jain as the CBDT chairman was also approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Jain will have short tenure of two months, till January 2016.

Who is Arun Kumar Jain?

• Arun Kumar Jain is a 1978 batch Indian Revenue Services officer.

• He was made acting Chairman of the board following superannuation of Anita Kapur on 30 November 2015.

About Central Board of Direct Taxes

• The Central Board of Direct Taxes is a statutory authority functioning under the Central Board of Revenue Act, 1963.

• The officials of the Board in their ex-officio capacity also function as a Division of the Ministry dealing with matters relating to levy and collection of direct taxes.
