S.S. Tarapore, former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), passed away on 2 February 2016 in Mumbai. He was 80.
Tarapore was mostly known for his strong views on issues, ranging from inflation to capital account convertibility.
About S.S. Tarapore
• S.S. Tarapore joined the Reserve Bank of India in 1961 as Research Officer.
• He retired from RBI in 1996 as Deputy Governor.
• After retiring, he chaired two committees on full capital account convertibility and one on how to streamline the RBI.
• He completed his BA in economics from Sheffield University in 1958. He obtained his masters degree in economics from London University.
