Girl Rising: A Global campaign to highlight importance of girls’ education
Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra and Freida Pinto launched a multi-level global campaign, Girl Rising on 29 November 2014 in New Delhi. The campaign aims at spreading awareness about importance of girls’ education and includes documentary film featuring the two stars and seven other actresses.
Priyanka and Freida are part of the global feature, which also co-stars Oscar-winners Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
The Indian version of the documentary that features top Bollywood actresses tells stories of nine unforgettable girls around the world striving against difficult circumstances to achieve their dreams of an education.
The girl rising campaign aims to create awareness and create a tangible platform to affect change.
What is Girl Rising?
Girl Rising’s Engage Campaign was launched in 2014 with the support of USAID. It is a global campaign for girls’ education. The campaign narrates stories to share the simple truth that educating girls can transform societies.
The campaign aims at changing the way the world values the girl by helping people understand her worth and the benefits to educating and empowering her.
