Under Vriksharopan Abhiyan, Amit Shah has inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of six eco-parks and tourism sites.

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched ‘Vriksharopan Abhiyan’ on July 23, 2020. Under the campaign, trees will be planted in colonies, mines, and offices.

The virtual event place took place in over 130 locations which are spread in 38 locations of 10 coal and lignite bearing states.

As per the official statement, the Union Home Minister launched the campaign in the presence of Pralhad Joshi, Union Coal, and Mines Minister.

Vriksharopan Abhiyan: Key Highlights

Under the campaign, Amit Shah has inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of six eco-parks and tourism sites.

The Abhiyan is being organized by the Ministry of Coal which involves all coal and Ignite PSUs. Under this large scale plantation will be carried out in colonies, offices, and mines and in other suitable areas of coal and Ignite PSUs.

Seedlings will also be distributed under the campaign in the nearby areas for promoting plantation by society.

The eco-parks inaugurated by Home Minister will provide avenues for the adventure, water sport, recreation, bird watching, etc. for the people who have been residing in the nearby areas. It can also be integrated to form part of the tourism circuit.

The sites under the campaign have been planned to generate revenue for self-sustenance and to create employment potential for the people.

About Going Green initiative:

‘Going green’ initiative is the key area of the coal sector in India. It involves maximization of green cover through ecological reclamation of the mined-out areas and overburden dumps, avenue plantation at suitable places, and plantation in and around the mines.

Going Green initiative by the Coal Ministry will kickstart through active participation of Coal and Ignite PSUs as well as the private miners in India.

In 2020, three coal and Ignite PSUs- NLC India Limited (NLCIL), Coal India Limited (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL)- have set a target to cover 1,789 hectares of an area in and around the coalfields under the creation of grassland (70 hectares), bio-reclamation and plantation (1626 hectares), bamboo plantation (3 hectares) and hi-tech cultivation (90 hectares).
