Jharkhand Government and the Airport Authority of India on 21 February 2012 signed a memorandum of understanding [MoU] to establish airports in Jamshedpur and Bokaro. The memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of the AAI Chairman, Mr V.P. Agarwal, and the Jharkhand Chief Minister, Mr Arjun Munda.
The aircraft operation would first be started with small ATR-72 aircrafts but with the increase in air traffic on the airport the bigger aircrafts would also be deployed for operation.
To start the aircrafts operation at the earliest, the state government has agreed to allocate the land for developing the airport.
