Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his manager Maroof were charged a penalty of 15 lakh rupees each in connection with recovery of huge amount of foreign currency from them. The total forign currency found with them was confiscated. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was to board a Dubai flight when the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials detained him along with his manager at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on 13 February 2011 with allegedly undeclared amount of 1.24 lakh dollars. The duo will be allowed to leave the country on payment of the penalty imposed on them by the Customs Department. The foreign exchange will however remain confiscated.
After booking Khan and his manager Marroof for illegal export of foreign currency under provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and the Customs Act, the DRI had on 19 February 2011 had sent the case for adjudication to the Customs Department at the IGI Airport.
