Parimarjan Negi from Delhi won his maiden National Premier Chess Championship after defeating Grand Master Tejas Bakre on 22 December 2010. Negi won the senior national chess title after completing a quick draw against GM Tejas Bakre in the final round and ended the championship with 9.5 points. He won the title in his third attempt 17-year-old Grandmaster Negi also became the first Indian player to secure the berth for the 2011 World Cup at Khanty Mansisyk as India was awarded a separate zone status by world chess federation (Fide) recently. Negi is the first player from Delhi to win the senior national championship.
