PM Narendra Modi coined acronym SMART for police forces across the country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a new mantra of policing and urged police to act SMART.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30 November 2014 coined the acronym SMART for police forces across the country. He coined the acronym at the 49th annual conference of India DGPs and IGPs hosted by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in Guwahati, Assam.

Acronym SMART policing means
• S for strict but sensitive
• M for modern and mobile
• A for alert and accountable
• R for reliable and responsive
• T for techno-savvy and trained

The two-day conference for first time was held outside the national capital, New Delhi.

Apart from this, the Prime Minister also called for documentation of stories of police martyrs and develop a document for use in training of police personnel in their respective state academies. Since independence over 33000 police personnel have laid their lives for the country.

He said that an e-book can also be developed with these stories uploaded in all the languages of our country.
