Indian batting maestro Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar on 19 December 2010 became the first batsman to score a monumental 50 centuries in the 133-year history of Test cricket. The next best is a record of 39 centuries in Test cricket. He achieved his 50th test century on the fourth day of the test against South Africa at SuperSport Park, Centurion. This century at Centurion marked Sachin’s fourth Test century on South African soil. In early 2010, Sachin had also created a record by scoring the first ever double hundred by a player in ODIs at Gwalior against South Africa.
Tendulkar also holds the record for most number of ODI hundreds (46). He currently holds 96 international centuries which is the maximum held by any batsman. He has to his credit 14506 runs at an average of 56.88 in 175 Tests. He holds the record of most number of runs in Test cricket. He aggregates 17598 in 442 matches at an average of 45.12 in the ODI category.
Ricky Ponting from Australia who holds 39 test centuries comes second in the list and is followed by Jacques Kallis of South Africa who has to his credit 38 test centuries. Other Indians who have managed to earn significant number of tons in Test cricket are- Sunil Gavaskar (34), Rahul Dravid (31), Virendra Sehwag (22) and Md Azharuddin (22).
