Steel Authority of India Ltd on 18 August 2010 selected four international suppliers for equipment and providing technology support to four critical projects of Bhilai Steel Plant. Bhilai steel plant proposes to launch the four projects as part of its modernisation and expansion programmes currently in progress. The four chosen suppliers are- Paul Wurth, Danieli & C, Ototech and SMS Meer. Paul Wurth in association with Larsen & Toubro would help in construction of the blast furnace (No. 8) with a rated capacity of 2.8 million tonnes. Ototech in partnership with Larsen & Toubro would supply equipment and help erect and commission a new sinter machine. SMS Meer would engage in developing 1.2 mtpa Universal Rail Mill to produce rails up to 130 metre in length in single piece. Danieli & C would supply and install the bar and rod mill.
