The unstoppable Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-4 in the Rome Masters final on 15 May 2011. With the victory at the Rome masters stretched his unbeaten start to the 2011 season to 37 matches.
The 23-year-old has won 39 consecutive matches stretching back to Serbia’s Davis Cup triumph in December. He has to score seven more victories to reach Guillermo Vilas’ Open era record set in 1977.
The second-ranked Djokovic won seven titles already this year, and beaten Nadal in all four finals they’ve played this year. He defeated the Spaniard for the first time on clay in Madrid Open 2011 final. The victory at Rome Masters made him the first player to beat Nadal on clay twice in the same year.
