Simultaneously, paramount importance is placed on maintaining the integrity and fairness of the matches. The coveted "Fair Play Award" is bestowed upon the team that exemplifies the highest level of sportsmanship and honesty throughout the tournament. Teams accrue valuable points by adhering to specific regulations and emphasising respect towards fellow players, opponents, and, notably, match officials.

Chennai Super Kings has won the most Fair Play Awards till 2024.

What Is The IPL Fair Play Award?

After each season, the Fair Play Award is bestowed upon the team with the most exemplary fair play record. The determination of the winner hinges on the points awarded by the umpires to the respective teams.

Fairplay Award Selection Process

1. Evaluation process by on-field umpires and third umpires post each match.
2. Maximum of 10 points per team per match.
3. Four points for adherence to the ‘spirit of the game’.
4. The remaining six points are divided among three criteria:

• Respect towards the opposition.
• Adherence to the laws of cricket.
• Respect towards the umpires.

Each criterion is worth two points. Two points indicate a "good" performance. One or zero points indicate an "average" or "poor" performance, respectively.

List of IPL Fair Play Award Winners 2008-2024

The team with the most remarkable track record in terms of Fair Play Awards is the Chennai Super Kings, led by the charismatic Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has clinched the IPL title five times. Over the last 16 seasons, CSK has secured this accolade a record six times, triumphing in the 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015 editions, respectively.  Here is the complete list:

The Rajasthan Royals claimed the Fair Play Award twice, in 2012 and 2021, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved the same feat in 2016 and 2019. Additionally, the Mumbai Indians secured this honour in 2018 and 2020. Furthermore, both the Punjab Kings and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions won in the 2009 and 2017 editions, respectively.
