On March 17, results for the Russian Presidential elections were declared. 71 years old Vladimir Putin won the elections by securing 87.97 percent of the votes.
Many big leaders, including Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi, congratulated Mr. Putin on his victory; however, The United States has criticized the polls mentioning that the elections in Russia are neither free, nor fair.
The general opinion of the Western governments and Russian public regarding Russian elections is that it is undemocratic. Putin's administration represses the voices of oppositions.
The top three candidates of the elections held this year and their vote share is as follows:
1. Nikolai Kharitonov
A person who himself doesn't believe that he would make a better President than Putin, stood second in the elections this year.
Being a member of the Communist party, 75 year old Kharitonov has scored 4.7% of the votes.
A report says that eventhough the party is in opposition, but in practice it backs up Putin and his party.
2. Vladislav Davankov
His father helped in setting up the party named New People Political Party in 2020.
40 years old Davankov, who has been the deputy chairman of lower house of Parliament, has gathered 3.6% of the votes this time.
He is considered as a liberal leader in comparison to others in the line.
3. Leonid Slutsky
Head of the lower house of Parliament's foreign affairs committee, Leonid Slutsky has scored 2.5% of the votes in elections this time.
The ultranationalist party has the agenda of fostering the ties with Middle East.
