An international non-profit organization named Reporters Without Borders, abbreviated as RWB aims at protecting the right to freedom of information. The organization is also called as Reporters sans frontières in French and holds consultative status at the Council of Europe, United Nations, International Organization of the Francophonie and UNESCO.
In the last few days, the Reporters Without Borders (RWB) brought forward the 2024 World Press Freedom Index. This index actually ranks over 180 countries on the basis of freedom of journalism, media functioning, and reporting. It is an important tool to asses the situation of press freedom in multiple countries.
Moreover, the index also showcases the challenges faced by the journalists, thereby encouraging the freedom of the press and boosting the governments to take proactive actions to safeguard journalism.
