Defence Ministry Scholarship for 50 students of class 6 from 100 Sainik schools

Defence Minister will be providing free support upto Rs. 40,000 per year for approximately 50 students of class 6 from 100 schools which will be affiliated by the Sainik School Society under a new scheme of the department.

Sainik School Scholarship

Defence Minister will be providing free support upto Rs. 40,000 per year for approximately 50 students of class 6 from 100 schools which will be affiliated by the Sainik School Society under a new scheme of the department. The approval for the affiliation of the 100 schools was given by the union cabinet for the 2022-23 academic year in government and private sectors with Sainik School Society under the Defence Ministry. Officials from the ministry have stated that academic sessions will begin in the new schools with admissions to class 6 and the scholarship in the first year will be for the students enrolled for the same. The fee support will also be increased for the students until class 12. 

Scholarship Scheme

The Scholarship Scheme will provide 50 percent of the fee with an upper limit of Rs. 40,000 annually for 50 percent of the class strength with a maximum of 50 students on the basis of merit per year from class 6 to class 12. In the initial stage, the total maximum expenditure with respect to financial assistance will amount to Rs. 20 Lakh per class every school year which will result in a grant of Rs. 20 Crore and Rs. 40 Crore for 100 schools during the first and second years respectively. Officials have also stated that the Sainik School Society will ask the schools for a reasonable fee and each of the 100 schools will be put under an existing Sainik School in each state. 

School Requirements

Currently, 33 Sainik Schools are operating across the country and the officials have stated that one retired armed forces officer will be associated with the management of each school while an ex-serviceman will be associated with conducting drills and games. Officials also added that the schools will have uniformity in their names and they should have adequate infrastructure in terms of land, buildings, and sports facilities.

Boarding facilities for the students is not mandatory but they are expected to follow a routine of 10 hours per day engaging the students in academic and extracurricular activities. Schools are also required to follow standard common uniform which will be prescribed by the Sainik School Society.
