Galgotias University: Galgotias University has received a ₹42 lakh research funding from TIH-IoT, IIT Bombay, to create a "Intelligent Ripening Detector for Mango and Watermelon," which will significantly advance agricultural technology. The Technology Innovation Hub (TIH-IoT) at IIT Bombay, a Section 8 organization founded under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS) by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, is supporting the project, which was awarded under the Technology Development Program (TDP).
Under the direction of Principal Investigator Dr. Agniv Tapadar, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering, the project seeks to close the gap between high-tech sensing systems and conventional farming. The foundation of this discovery is a portable, reasonably priced technology that can detect dangerous fake ripening chemicals and identify natural ripening stages in a variety of watermelon and mango species. This intelligent system uses an innovative intrinsic impedance sensing technique, in contrast to conventional techniques that can call for sampling or cutting.
This sensor-based technique ensures that fruit quality is maintained throughout the evaluation by analyzing the fruit's interior biochemical and physical characteristics without inflicting any exterior harm. Galgotias University is putting itself at the forefront of interdisciplinary research by combining the domains of intelligent systems, enhanced sensing, and agriculture. In addition to improving food safety and post-harvest management, this initiative directly supports India's national objectives of developing a strong cyber-physical system ecosystem to modernize the country’s agricultural supply chain.
