JNU Admission 2019: JNUSU (Jawaharlal Nehru University Student’s Union) VP, Sarika Chaudhary along with 10 other students has gone on hunger strike to protest against the university’s decision to hold online entrance exams and several other issues. In the meantime, the JNU officials said the registration process for the online entrance exam is at its peak with thousands of applicants registering within a few days since the portal was made public. JNUSU vice-president and former president Geeta Kumari, started the hunger strike for indefinite time demanding the vice-chancellor of the university to take action on the issues raised by them. The Student’s Union of JNU said, "We also hope that the Visitor of the university, the honorable President of India, urgently intervenes in the matter and calls the elected members of the JNUSU for a dialogue".
The decision to impose online examination to all the courses including Ph.D. and MPhil is against the opinions of students and teachers who cited the accessibility problems and pedagogical limits in having online admission process. And, on the basis of these problems they want to have a discussion and find a possible solution. The other key issues they need to discuss is the decision to delink the integrated MPhil-PhD programme without any intimation or discussion in the academic council meeting. Another issue they want to raise is related to the BA second year admission. The JNUSU also demanded the resignation of VC M Jagadesh Kumar.
JNU has already released its online application on 15th March 2019, and the last to submit online application form is 15th April 2019. Candidates will be able to may correction in the application forms from 22nd to 28th April 2019. The date of release of admit card is 10th May 2019, and the exam will be held from 27th to 30th May 2019.
