NEET MDS 2024: The National Eligibility Entrance Test-Master of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) 2024 has not been postponed by the Supreme Court. The Court reviewed a miscellaneous application filed by students requesting exam postponements. However, the NEET MDS 2024 exam will be conducted on March 18, 2024.
Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud stated that the National Dental Commission (NDC) is working to get academic sessions back on track. He further mentioned that it cannot be regarded as arbitrary to seek the court’s intervention. CJI Chandrachud noted that it was inappropriate to interfere at this stage.
The NDC stated in the Supreme Court hearing that it is working to get the session back on track and informed that about 28,000 students will appear for the entrance exam on March 18, 2024. The Commission further stated that the NEET aspirant will be impacted if the exam is postponed at this time. The NDC added that 568 students registered for the exam after the union government extended the cut-off date.
Meanwhile, the petitioner's attorney contended that 8,000 students are halfway through their clinical course and will be left out. The petitioners demanded parity between the NEET MDS 2024 and NEET PG 2024 exams.
Why Were Students Demanding NEET MDS 2024 Exam Postponement?
The NEET MDS aspirants and student organizations demanded the exam be postponed to July 2024. The issue was earlier taken to the Supreme Court. However, the apex court refused to intervene and asked the Centre to take a call. After the Centre did not take any action despite reassuring students, the petitioners approached the Supreme Court. MDS aspirants demand the postponement as NBE rescheduled NEET PG 2024 to July.
Students and doctors demanded the postponement of the NEET exam. The associations contended that thousands of candidates lost their eligibility to take the exam due to the internship deadline and that students would have to wait a lengthy period because NEET MDS counseling will take place in August along with NEET PG.
