Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal Government and Madhya Pradesh Government, on Tuesday, announced the incorporation of 10% EWS reservation under General category for Education and Job sector. The decision has come six months after the BJP-led NDA Government announced the same. The EWS reservation decision was announced by West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee. During the announcement, he also added that EWS category students will have 10% reservation in government and education sector. However, those who are covered in other categories such as OBC, SC and ST will not be eligible for the EWS category reservation.
Similarly, the Congress-led government in MP also issued orders for applying the 10% EWS reservation for education and job sector. Tuesday onwards the General Administration Department issued instructions to Chief Executive officer of all heads of departments, District Panchayats and District Collector. Kamal Nath-led government in Madhya Pradesh will incorporate the EWS reservation from the next academic session, considering the institutions in the state that have completed the admission process of this year.
The benefit of the EWS category will be for those candidates whose family’s annual income does not exceed 8 lakh per annum. It must be noted, those who wish to seek admission or job under the EWS category should not belong to any other reserved category. Candidates seeking admission under this reservation category must not own agricultural land more of 5 acres or more. The residential flat owned by the family should not exceed 1000 sq.ft.
