AFCAT Selection Procedure 2024: The Indian Air Force conducts the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) for the recruitment of Group ‘A’ Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches. The AFCAT selection process 2024 is divided into three stages, i.e. written exam, AFSB/SSB interview, and medical exam.

Their admission at all the exam stages will be purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed AFCAT eligibility conditions. If it is found that they fail to satisfy any of the eligibility conditions, their candidature will be disqualified by the IAF.

AFSB Interview

Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating Test, along with Picture Perception and Discussion Test.

Stage II: Psychological Tests, Group Tests and Interviews

For Flying Branch- CPSS (Computerised Pilot Selection System) / PABT (Pilot Aptitude Battery Test).

AFCAT Selection Procedure 2024 for Written Exam

The written exam is the first stage of the AFCAT selection process 2024. The online examination will consist of objective-type questions, and the medium of the exam will be in English only. As per the marking scheme, three marks will be awarded for every correct answer, and one mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. AFCAT Selection Procedure 2024 for AFSB Interview

Candidates declared successful in the online AFCAT will be shortlisted for one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSB). The second stage of the AFCAT selection process 2024 will be the AFSB/SSB interview. The testing at AFSB would consist of three stages, as shared below:

  • (I) Stage I: The Officer Intelligence Rating Test, along with the Picture Perception and Discussion Test, will be conducted on the first day. Stage I is a screening test, and only those who qualify will be shortlisted for the subsequent testing. All Stage-I qualified candidates would be subjected to a document check to determine their eligibility for the branches applied for. Candidates who fail to qualify in Stage I or fail to meet the required eligibility criteria will be sent back on the first day. 
  • (ii) Stage II: A psychological test will be conducted on Day 1 (evening), and the group tests and interviews will commence after the document verification for the next five days. 
  • (iii) For Flying Branch: The Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) would be administered to recommended candidates only. This is a lifetime test. Candidates who were not declared successful in the CPSS/ PABT in an earlier attempt or who were flight cadets suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy will not be eligible.

AFCAT Document Verification 2024

All the shortlisted candidates will be required to bring the following documents, which will be verified during AFSB testing, as shared below.

  • AFCAT Admit Card
  • Original Matriculation/Secondary School Certificate and Mark sheets
  • Original Marks Sheet and Certificate of 10+2 (issued by the relevant Board)
  • Original/Provisional Graduation Degree/Post Graduation Degree Certificates and Mark Sheet
  • Two attested photocopies of each of the required certificates.
  • Original NCC Certificate (if applicable).
  • NOC from employers for candidates working in Central/State Govt. or Public Sector Undertakings
  • Original valid Commercial Pilots’ Licence, issued by DGCA, if applicable.
  • Inbound Railway ticket or Bus ticket (For refund of travel Allowance) 
  • Twenty copies of recent passport-size colour photographs taken in light-coloured clothes against a white background for documentation

AFCAT Final Merit List

Candidates must obtain the minimum qualifying marks separately in the written examination and AFSB test as fixed by the IAF. Candidates will be placed on the AFCAT merit list based on their total marks in the written examination and the AFSB tests. The allotment of the branch will be based on the number of vacancies, performance in the AFCAT selection process, medical fitness and the preference given by the candidates.

What Next After the AFCAT Selection Procedure 2024?

Candidates recommended by the AFSBs and found medically fit by the appropriate medical establishments will be required to undergo training strictly based on the merit and availability of vacancies in various branches and sub-branches.

The training period will commence in the first week of January 2025 for all courses. The approximate training duration for flying and ground duty (technical) branches is 62 weeks, and that for ground duty (non-technical) branches is 52 weeks at Air Force Training Establishments.
