Q: Government has come out with CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) instead of class X board exams in order to relieve the exam pressure on children. But children with no experience of appearing in the board exams (X) will have to appear in the class XII board exams along with the competitive exams, adding to their pressure. How will this stress be handled?
A: Encouraging regular study habits and proper guidance will help the child perform at his/ her optimum level if he/she is weak in any subject. Once he/she starts performing well in class tests, his/her self esteem increases, confidence builds up and the desire to do well motivates him to study hard and perform even better the next time around. Building confidence is not a day’s job. Stop comparing your child with his/ her friends. Don’t Discourage Extra Curricular activities as it gives shape to a child’s personality. Don’t yell at kids and keep away family problems from them.
Be a good listener and stop pushing your kid too hard as it can increase the risk of inducing anxiety and depression on top of the strain of the taking of the exams in the first place. Trust your child, keep yourself calm, and teach him/ her to rectify his/ her mistakes. Make them learn that grades can help speed up an individual’s progress in life but is not bigger than life itself.
