Following the decorum of its recently announced ‘inclusive policy’ for undergraduate admissions 2014, Delhi University has decided to let girl students continue availing relaxation in cutoff.
Besides cut-off, some of DU colleges also set some additional eligibility criteria to allow admissions to their courses every year. Last year, 18 colleges offered 1-5% relaxation in cutoff to girl aspirants, viz. colleges like Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam, Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Dyal Singh (morning and evening), Ram Lal Anand (evening) and Shaheed Bhagat Singh (evening) offered 3% cutoff relaxation to girls in all honours courses of arts and commerce streams. An equal number of colleges offered such relaxation in courses of science stream.
In the inclusive policy for the current year UG admissions, the university has constrained colleges from issue additional eligibility criteria and designed a uniform set of admission criteria for all. But, in order to continue with its policy of inclusiveness and women's empowerment, the varsity has allowed colleges to continue with the cut-off relaxation criterion, if they want to provide any. If the case be, the colleges must write to the dean of students' welfare for approval.
Apart from all this, the university is also planning to constrain colleges from issuing an individual set of criteria for admitting gap year students. Till now, students had to face a lot of hardship due to varying eligibility criteria. But the new uniform guidelines to be introduced will help students who took a year gap to apply for DU admission.
