Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Kanpur is one of the leading engineering institutions in India. It was estabilshed in 1920 as "Government Research Institute, Cawnpore". In 1921, it was renamed as "Government Technological Institute". In 1926 it got the name by which it is known today "Harcourt Butler Technological Institute".The undergraduate programmes of the institute has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (N.B.A). The faculty has contributed 350 research papers and 80 presentations in Indian as well as International journals. Besides,49 R&D Schemes sponsored by D.S.T, U.G.C, I.C.A.R, D.R.D.O.,U.P.C.S.T., C.SI.R., D.A.E., I.C.M.R.,D.O.E. and Ministry of Civil supplies have been successfully completed.

Eligibility:
For admission to first year of B.Tech./ B.Pharm., candidate must have clearly passed intermediate examination of U. P. Board or 10+2 level examination or its equivalent from any recognized Board / University and securing minimum 45% marks (40% marks for SC/ST Category candidates) without grace in required each compulsory subjects and one optional subject taken together as given in Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry/Bio-Technology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject
Admission procedure:
Institute admits students in its undergraduate B.Tech. and through U.P. State Engineering Entrance Examination (UPSEE). The admissions against NRI quota seats in B.Tech. programmes is also made through UPSEE.
