IIM Ahmedabad recently welcomed the new batch of academic year 2019-21 belonging to the Post Graduate Programme for Management (PGP) and Post Graduate Programme for Food and Agri-Business Management (PGP-FABM). This year the PGP (2019-21) batch has seen highest composition of candidates with work experience. Take a look at the batch profile at IIM-A.
IIM Ahmedabad Batch Profile: PGP (2019-21)
The current PGP batch for the academic year 2019-21 has a capacity intake of 388 students in the flagship Post-Graduate Program (PGP). There are no less than 49% students that have relevant work experience of at least one to three years. These figures are one of the highest in the past three years, as per the reports of an IIM-A official. Among the previous year PGP aspirants from 2018-20 and 2017-19 batch, the candidates with relevant work experience had been 45% and 38% respectively of the total batch.
Speaking on the diverse nature of the batch, Chairperson (Admissions) Prof. Vishal Gupta said, “Our admissions policy helps us admit students with diverse perspectives...this is part of a conscious effort to improve the in-class learning experience of students, who we believe would benefit from being in class with people from diverse background.”
Dip in the Gender Diversity
Considering the gender diversity ratio of the batch, against 28% and 27% in 2017-19 and 2018-20, this year, the current batch comprises 24% female students. Taking a dig at this ratio, Professor Errol D’Souza, director of IIM-A, said, “The achievements are slow as the goal is to not give extra credits or specify a quota for gender or other diversity attributes in the admissions process.”
Status quo of candidates in PGP-FABM batch
The PGP-FABM batch has welcomed highest ratio of candidates compared to the previous year which is 48 per cent candidates who possess background in farming and agriculture. One of the batch's candidates, Danish S. Mehta, who hails from a farmer family in Haryana, says “From the very beginning of my professional endeavors, I had a keen interest in the field of agriculture and wanted to have my own agri-business. My key objective behind pursuing this programme is to learn all the aspects of managing and strengthening a business while also obtaining necessary industry knowledge and expertise."
