While addressing the 52 Foundation Day celebrations of the Indian Institute of Management - Calcutta (IIM-C) on 15 November 2013, the chairman of the institute’s Board of Governors Ajit Balakrishnan said that in all the previous years, the IIM-C has produced research papers more than what all the other IIMs have produced together.
“In the past year; 66 papers were written, presented and published in international journals. Sixty eight were presented in international conferences. Fourteen in national conferencing and 29 other working papers,” he said.
Stating the activities went on at the Institute, he said the research papers were the work of only 90 faculty members of the Institute.
Mr. Balakrishnan further threw praising words to a research paper published by a faculty member on an algorithm for dynamic spectrum allocation, saying it could be helpful when a lot of thinking was going on across the world, that spectrum should never be owned and given to one person exclusively; it should be dynamically allocated when it was needed.
Referring to the high ratings achieved by the IIM-C in the Financial Times’ global ranking of management institutes, Mr. Balakrishnan said, “It is not out of nothing that the IIM-C got such high rankings.”
Ajit Balakrishnan is also the founder and CEO of rediff.com.
