Madras University Free Education Scheme 2025: Madras University Free Education Scheme (MUFES) is for those students who want to pursue a professional degree from colleges affiliated to the Madras University. This scheme was started from the academic year 2010-11. The affiliated colleges must be in the three districts of Chennai, Thiruvalluvar, and Kancheepuram. The students who belong to economically backward sections are given preference under the scheme. The total annual family income must be less than 3 lakh per annum.

Candidates who wish to apply for the Madras University Free Education Scheme for the academic year 2025-2026 can follow these steps:
- Visit the official website- unom.ac.in.
- Check the “Announcements” section on the page. There you will find the “Madras University Free Education Scheme (MUFES) Application for the academic year 2025-26”. Click on it.
- A dialog box will appear with “General Instructions” in both Tamil and English language.
- Read the instructions carefully and then click on the “I Agree” button.
- A new screen will appear which requires you to login with your User ID and Date of Birth.
- After logging in, fill the application form carefully and take a printout for future reference.

Seat Allocation under the MUFES Scheme 2025
Each college will be allotted with minimum 3 FREE SEATS (i.e. 1 Free seat under each category) which will be sanctioned as extra seats above the sanctioned strength by the University. The seats are allotted to different categories as given under :
- CATEGORY (i): 1/3rd of the seats for Widow’s Children / Widower’s Children / Orphan / Destitute children based on the marks obtained in Major subjects.
- CATEGORY (ii): 1/3rd of the seats for First Graduate / Disabled / Transgender students based on the marks obtained in Major subjects.
- CATEGORY (iii): 1/3rd of the seats for Merit students who had obtained 80% of marks in the Major subjects.
Documents Required to Fill the Application Form for MUFES Scheme 2025
Students who wish to take the benefits under the Madras University Free Education Scheme must keep these documents handy before filling the application form.The scanned copy of each document must be in black and white and within 200 kb to 300 kb size. These are the documents:
- Plus-One and Plus-Two marks statement
- Income Certificate provided by the Tehsildar
- Students under (i) and (ii) category should submit required documents such as First Graduate Certificate (FG) issued by Tahsildar, Physically Challenged (PH) Certificate issued by Government of India, Death Certificate issued by Corporation
